Video DownloadHelper not working — fixes
“It’s not working” usually means one of a handful of things. Work down this list, or use the guided troubleshooter.
SHORT ANSWERPlay the video first (the icon only lights up on a detected stream), refresh, check the extension is enabled for the site, then rule out DRM. Most “no video detected” cases are protected or non-standard sources.
Quick checklist
- Start playback and let it buffer a few seconds.
- Refresh the page with the extension enabled.
- Confirm the extension is not paused for that site.
- Try a lower quality — some players only expose a stream after playback.
- Rule out DRM (see the DRM page).
By symptom
- Icon stays grey / no video detected — protected or non-standard delivery.
- Got an .mpd file, not a video — a DASH manifest; see the MPD analyzer.
- Video but no audio — separate tracks; use the companion app to mux.
- Download fails partway — retry at lower resolution, keep the tab awake.
- Can’t find the file — see the save-location guide.
