Video DownloadHelper on Chrome
Chrome is the most common place people run Video DownloadHelper. Here is the Chrome-specific install, permissions, and the limits to expect.
SHORT ANSWERInstall from the Chrome Web Store, pin the toolbar icon, and start playback before you look for the download list. Chrome’s download folder is where files land by default.
Install in Chrome
- Open the Chrome Web Store listing and click Add to Chrome.
- Confirm the permissions prompt, then pin the icon (puzzle-piece menu → pin) so you can see its status.
- Visit a page with a video, press play, then click the icon to see what it detected.
Permissions, in plain terms
- Read and change data on all sites — needed to observe the streams a page plays.
- Manage downloads — to save the captured file.
If you prefer, Chrome lets you restrict the extension to specific sites. On Chromium browsers (Brave, Edge) the flow is nearly identical.
Chrome limits to know
- YouTube is restricted by the platform, so results there are inconsistent.
- DRM-protected streams (Netflix, Prime, Disney+) cannot be captured.
